New KHS principal is a familiar face...ba href=/anxiety/a/b because you know you're following a guy who's been doing it for 18 years, and there is a level of expectation. The bar is set real high, so I hope to be able to carry on and hopefully lead the building into a seamless transition," said Mikel. Mikel has been assistant principal at KHS for 11 years. He says his main duties have been dealing with the students. He says his new job will deal more with instructional leadership. "I will tell you I know who the good teachers are, and I know the components of what a good teacher is, and I would expect that transition will be smooth and easy by me being here 11 years and hopefully easier for the staff," said Mikel. Williams says there were a total of 10 viable applicants. The board later narrowed it down to three finalists."Mr. Mikel was the only local or in-house candidate, the other two candidates came from outside the district," said Williams. Mikel and Williams both will take over their new positions beginning July 1st. "The advantage of being an in-house candidate allows us to begin making that transition now," said Williams. Williams says they will advertise and interview for the assistant principal position, just as they did for the superintendent and principal jobs. -Courtney Cooper, Reporting InsuranceWant to lower your insurance rates? Traumatic memories...ba href=/anxiety/a/b, mood swings, nightmares and flashbacks of the events. Those experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder report that when the flashbacks occur, they are so real it is almost as if they were happening at the very moment. As a result of the emotional and behavioural symptoms, victims may suffer somatic symptoms that include gastric pains, stomach cramps, chest pains, headaches and diarrhoea. Many children who experience these flashbacks suffer in silence. They are afraid that someone will laugh at them. Many fear that it is ghosts that are coming to haunt them. Worse still, in the case of abuse, they are afraid that the perpetrator may return to harm them. In some cases, the flashbacks might subside and suddenly re-emerge years later when a similar traumatic event occurs, triggering off old memories. As a rule of thumb, traumatic memories that are not addressed, never really go away. In almost all cases, getting through the trauma requires professional help from a trained clinical pychologist, psychiatrist or counsellor. Here are some of the strategies used by professionals to treat post-traumatic stress disorders.
