On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, deputy prime minister for the Council of Ministers, is leading the Sultanate’s delegation to the summit. Meanwhile, the leaders reached a deal yesterday to provide funding for cash-strapped African Union troops in the troubled Sudanese region of Darfur, Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh told reporters. He said they also agreed at their summit in Khartoum to strengthen the AU force by providing troops from Arab states. The move came after summit host Sudan appealed for the Arab League help to strengthen the AU force and back its rejection of plans by the UN Security Council to send peacekeepers to Darfur.
