Panel to debate ADHD drug labeling

But Grace Jackson, a psychiatrist outside Greenville, N.C., says ADHD medications "are exactly the same chemicals" as popular street drugs known to trigger psychosis.

Jackson belongs to the International Center for the Study of Psychiatry and Psychology, a non-profit organization that argues many psychiatric drugs have never been shown to be safe or effective.

Last month, another FDA advisory panel narrowly voted to recommend adding a "black box" warning on ADHD drug labels about a possible increased risk of cardiovascular problems.

On Wednesday, the pediatrics advisory panel will also discuss Office of Drug Safety data about such problems.

The FDA doesn't have to follow the advice of advisory panels but usually does.!
