...ba href=/bipolar disorder/a/b (manic depression), their friends and families, celebrates a milestone this year — its 15th anniversary.

It all started when three persons suffering from ba href=/bipolar disorder/a/b founded New Directions Delaware in April 1991.

The founders’ purpose was to provide a support group for themselves and for others with mood disorders.

Initially, one support group was offered each month, but the demand from the community for mental health support and education led to the rapid growth of New Directions.

In 1996, New Directions incorporated; in 2000 it received a 501(c)3 nonprofit letter from the Internal Revenue Service, and in 2003 New Directions affiliated with the national Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance and in 2005 won their Chapter Service Award.

Today, New Directions offers four twice-monthly (on the second and third Monday) free support groups: a group for those with depression; a group for those with ba href=/bipolar disorder/a/b; a group for family and friends; and an orientation group for newcomers.

In 2005, over 600 persons attended these support meetings.

All support meetings are currently held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Fairfax.

In addition to support, New Directions offers education in several forms:• Monthly educational lectures by local professionals are held on the 4th Monday of most months for participants and for the public.

...ba href=/bipolar disorder/a/b from starting therapy because they believe it may release suppressed memories of severe emotional anguish, but there is no scientific basis for these claims, Ulbricht said.

"It's been suggested for many conditions, but we don't know if it's safe or effective for any of them," she said.

Still, Ulbricht cautions against jumping to conclusions about Rolfing based on the dearth of research.

"Chinese medicine has been around for 5,000 years, but just because there aren't meta-analysis studies on it, doesn't mean it doesn't work," she said.

Werkstell can't vouch for the science behind Rolfing, but the one-time skeptic said he knows the technique has made the difference for him.

"I can't speak for anyone else, but for me there's been nothing else like it," he said.

Her mother was given custody of the children.Montano and husband Jose Montano spent about 18 hours on the run with their children, then ages 2 and 3, until authorities caught them at a motel in the Florida Panhandle in June 2003.

The children were unharmed.Nora Montano had been found not guilty by reason of insanity.She had been living in a group home until a couple weeks ago when she was kicked out for not taking her medication and losing control, according to her attorney, Patrick Rastatter.

She was living with caregiver Martha Paret while her guardians found a new group home.She left a note for Paret about Monday morning saying she was biking 3 1/2 miles to a store."I think they let her leave the hospital too soon," Paret said.
