The children were unharmed.Nora Montano had been found not guilty by reason of insanity.She had been living in a group home until a couple weeks ago when she was kicked out for not taking her medication and losing control, according to her attorney, Patrick Rastatter. She was living with caregiver Martha Paret while her guardians found a new group home.She left a note for Paret about Monday morning saying she was biking 3 1/2 miles to a store."I think they let her leave the hospital too soon," Paret said. Mother in 2003 child abduction is struck, killed by school bus ......ba href=/bipolar disorder/a/b, was recently committed to a mental health facility, and her caregiver said she was acting erratically. But police said an initial investigation indicates her death was not a suicide attempt. "By all indications, this seems to be a very tragic accident," said police spokesman Bill Robertson. Montano, a former U.S. Army private, set off a nationwide Amber Alert in 2003 when she and her husband allegedly snatched her two small children from their beds in the middle of the night by smashing a rental car into the Miramar home where the children lived with their grandmother. Montano's mother, Nora Sarria, still has custody of the children, but now lives in a different home in Miramar. She could not be reached for comment. In April 2004, Montano was declared incompetent to face trail, even though she wanted to plead guilty. She was scheduled to appear in court next month to update the judge on her condition. In Montano's routine court appearance on Nov. 22, Broward Circuit Court Judge Martin Bidwell praised the troubled mother for taking her medications and noted her positive progress, recalled her attorney, Patrick Rastatter. "The judge said she was the `poster child' of what happens when the system works," Rastatter said. But about 40 days ago, Montano was involuntarily committed after an incident at a group home in Lauderhill, he said. Details were not available.
