-0- Islanders' Simon suspended indefinitely NEW YORK, March 9 (UPI) - The National Hockey League Friday indefinitely suspended New York Islanders forward Chris Simon for a stick-swinging incident.

Simon was given a match penalty for a deliberate attempt to injure and was thrown out of Thursday's game against the New York Rangers when he hit Ryan Hollweg with his stick.

Hollweg checked Simon into the boards and, after getting up and seeing Hollweg moving toward him, Simon took a two-handed swing with his stick and hit Hollweg in the face.

The Rangers' player fell and was motionless on the ice for a time but was able to leave the ice on his own.

After the game Hollweg said the extent of the injury wouldn't be known until he was examined but did black out briefly and also temporarily lost his hearing.

The Rangers scored their game-winning goal on the power play after Simon was ejected.

Simon refused to discuss the incident until he spoke to league officials.

NHL officials said they would convene a hearing to determine how long Simon would be suspended.

Son's fight to keep care deal

He has also enlisted the help of local politicians including West Bromwich West MP Adrian Bailey, who said: "I have been in touch with the primary care trusts over this case and I am monitoring it closely." Mr Shakespeare claims a "post-code lottery" means those suffering from the same condition in other parts of the country are treated differently.

"My main aim is to to get my mum the care she deserves," he said.

"She does not even know who I am.

This is somebody in need of constant medical attention.

"The worst-case scenario is I will have to fund a proportion of that £800 a week." Sandwell PCTs' director of primary care and modernisation Claire Molloy said: "Sandwell PCTs regularly review the care needs of our clients and where those needs have changed; this may mean an alteration of funding levels or funding arrangements.

"In some cases responsibility for funding some elements of that care may pass to social services.

"Sandwell PCTs have a robust process where such assessments take place and family members or carers are routinely invited to be present at case conferences or discuss the case with clinicians." Wolverhampton social services declined to comment.
