Carol Theuriet would do anything for her aging mother Carolyn, and in the past fours years, she has.Four years ago, Carolyn McDill began to show signs of ba href=/dementia/a/b, including memory loss, confusion, wandering. Carol had to make a choice — who would take care of her mother? Carol Theuriet smiles sweetly at her mother, Carolyn McDill. Theuriet has taken her mother into her home. McDill has the beginnings of Alzheimer's. Although she was living at Austin Gardens, she developed a blood clot in her leg and couldn't be given the proper medical care. (Jennifer M. Howell/News-Sentinel) Carol tried putting her mother in senior apartments and assisted living units, options that would give her mom some small measure of freedom.But when her mother was found wandering Lodi's streets and was picked up by police, Carol's options narrowed. She made the toughest decision she's ever had to make and put Carolyn in Austin Gardens Alzheimer Special Care Center."You know they're not going to get the care you could give them yourself," she says. "There a tremendous amount of guilt."Recently, a blood clot in her leg made the 88-year-old Carolyn ineligible at Austin Gardens, which does not provide special clinical services, and Carol had to change gears yet again. She and her husband Leigh are now Carolyn's sole care providers.Carolyn is one of 4 million Americans suffering from some form... Security screener infuriates daughter...ba href=/dementia/a/b, and is hard of hearing. So when Bogart, who was in a wheelchair, was required by airport security on Saturday to stand against doctor's orders and undergo a rigorous screening by a testy female screener, Moon got furious. "I don't know if she thought my mom had a bomb in her Depends or what," Moon said. A Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman said Thursday that a high level of professionalism and courtesy is expected from its screeners and Moon's complaint is being looked into. But Moon doubts anyone will be held accountable. This week, she sat at her computer in Colorado Springs and e-mailed the TSA's Office of Civil Rights. "Although I imagine this complaint will go straight to the trash and the agent responsible will face no consequences and receive no reprimand, I could not sleep until I at least voiced my outrage," she began. Moon said that at about 6 p.m. Saturday, she and her sister were walking alongside their mother, who was in a wheelchair being pushed by a Frontier Airlines employee to a special screening area at the head of DIA's Concourse A. Just before reaching security, Moon's sister, who did not have gate clearance, was asked to sit in a chair away from the screening area while Moon and their mother proceeded. Bogart was holding an orthopedic card saying that she had a metal plate in her hip.
