"As was earlier shown with tau proteins, it appears that Pin1 acts to restore misshapen amyloid precursor proteins to their original healthy shape, possibly preventing the onset of neurodegeneration and development of ba href=/dementia/a/b," says D. Stephen Snyder, PhD, of the Etiology of Alzheimer's Disease program at the National Institute on Aging, which supported this study. Paris HealthCare to open special care unit March 28...ba href=/dementia/a/b, Alzheimer’s Disease or other special needs. A ribbon-cutting ceremony sponsored by the Paris Area Chamber of Commerce will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the facility, and an open house will follow until 7 p.m. The new unit will provide 26 beds in semiprivate rooms in a secure environment, complete with alarm. It will be located in the newest area of the facility, the Harvest Wing, and will provide private dining and activities, with days based around activities and events for the residents. It will be decorated with memorabilia from the past. The original Shady Rest Nursing Home at that location was opened March 28, 1972 to serve the needs of the community. The former Goding Shoe Factory housed at the sight was converted into the nursing care facility. Paris businessmen Art Reese and Don Belt are credited with the vision of a 98-bed shelter care and intermediate nursing home to serve the area. Now operating as Paris HealthCare, the nursing center will open the new special care unit on the day that marks the 34-year anniversary of the original facility. In honor of this historic event, the new unit will be called Shady Lane. The nursing home is currently owned by Mark Ide of Ide Management Group of Indianapolis, Ind. Administrator is Melissa Marshall and director of the new unit is Lori Hollingsworth. Special guests will include Eleanor Belt, widow of Don Belt, and the first staff member of the facility, Jessie Branson.
