Ben Goutermont and Mike McGregor have been hired as deputy sheriffs.

Norberg, a 20-year veteran of the department, took over the undersheriff position on Feb.

DeRosier, an 18-year veteran of the department, will focus exclusively on the drug problem in Lake County. DeRosier is also heading up the North Shore Drug Response Team. This team includes members from the Lake and Cook counties sheriffs’ offices and the Two Harbors and Silver Bay police departments.  Peterson stated, "We have our hands full with methamphetamine abuse that has hit our communities. Appointing Richard to narcotics investigates full time is a definite move in the right direction. He is an excellent investigator. We couldn't have made a better choice." Goutermont, a Silver Bay native and former Silver Bay police officer, joined the sheriff's office on Feb.
