Tony Mokbel.Photo: Andrew de la Rue Missing millionaire Tony Mokbel has been sentenced to 12 years in jail for drug trafficking.

The 40-year-old, who has not been seen for almost two weeks, was found guilty on Tuesday of one charge of being knowingly concerned in the importation of a trafficable quantity of cocaine.

He was involved in the importation of 2kg of pure cocaine from Mexico to Melbourne in late 2000.

The case was interrupted when he did not appear for the start of the seventh week of his trial on March 20.

Victorian Supreme Court Justice Bill Gillard today sentenced Mokbel in his absence to 12 years in jail, with a minimum sentence of nine years.

Justice Gillard described Mokbel as the "brains and moving force behind the cocaine importation".

He said there was "substantial and compelling" evidence against him.
