Please use the site map. past 7 days archives ! - Home :: News - Nussle bill includes funds to fight crime REGISTER WASHINGTON BUREAU March 30, 2006 Washington, D.C. — House Budget Committee Chairman Jim Nussle, R-Ia., said Wednesday that a budget bill he oversees would contain $900 million more for national law enforcement grants than President Bush's budget proposal.Part of that money will give Iowa law enforcement officials the resources they need to fight meth abuse, Nussle said. It will also assist local education, prevention and rehabilitation programs.Iowa law enforcement officials on Wednesday visited Washington to lobby for more money for law enforcement and juvenile justice. They said that overall, federal money for those areas in Iowa would decline to $8.4 million in the proposed 2007 budget, compared with $25.9 million in 2006, if the Bush proposal is adopted.Bush had recommended elimination of what is known as Byrne Justice Assistance Grants. Iowa this year received $2.8 million in such grants.Also, advocates for wildlife praised Nussle for not including drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in his initial version of the budget bill."Congressman Nussle's clean budget resolution ...
