Standoff Ends Peacefully...ba href=/drug abuse/a/b is back in jail after a standoff with police this morning. 22-year old Patrick Mullinnex of Lyndonville gave up to after leading a 25-mile chase through the Northeast Kingdom. The chase ended where Patrick Mullinnex's mother lives in one of several homes on Pumping Station Drive in Sutton, just south of Barton. Police say Mullinnex was thought to have a sawed off shotgun when he pulled up into the driveway with Newport police right behind him. Police say Mullinnex refused to get out of the car. Newport City Police Chief Paul Duquette described the man's state as "Real hyper, irrational behavior, you know. 'Somebody's going to die today, somebody's going to get hurt.' A neighbor quoted Mullinnex as saying the same thing. "And they were trying to talk to him, you know, try to get him to come out or show his hands," Lisa Perry, who lives next door, told Channel 3. "And he would only show one hand. And it just kept going on, and more police came, and they coming down across the front yard, and had their guns drawn. It was pretty scary." Mullinnex pleaded guilty last year, with several other men, to charges involving a conspiracy to smuggle a thousand dollars worth of cocaine and pills into the Saint Johnsbury prison. George Albright, another neighbor who lives just up the driveway from the scene of the standoff, said, "He hadn't been out of jail that long. I guess he's quite the drug user.
