A Day to End Sexual Violence

... Ironwood Daily Globe, Ironwood, Michigan, USA | News A Day to End Sexual Violence Published Tuesday, March 28, 2006 11:01:04 AM Central Time IRONWOOD - April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and a chance to focus awareness on sexual violence and its prevention.

It is an opportunity to challenge societal norms supportive of sexual violence and to find innovative and effective ways of promoting collaboration in the community to advance the message, "It's about Time to Prevent Sexual Violence." April 6 is recognized nationally as "A Day to End Sexual Violence." This year, Domestic Violence Escape Inc.

has chosen to use the day as a way to bring awareness to the use of rape drugs by co-sponsoring free training at Gogebic Community College.

Drug-facilitated sexual assault involves administration of a drug to render the victim helpless and incapable of withholding consent.

Because some of the drugs are colorless, tasteless and odorless, they are easily slipped into a person's drink.

Sexual assaults have long been linked to the abuse of drugs, primarily alcohol, which may decrease a person's inhibitions and render the user incapacitated.

This is a vital training and information seminar for bar owners, bartenders, bouncers and patrons.

Educating the public on these horrific drugs and their effects is one step closer to stopping drug-facilitated sexual assaults.

Training will be held from 10 a.m.

until 3 p.m.

in room B-21 at Gogebic Community College with registration beginning ...
