Neighbors claimed that Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies were constantly at Dawn Tilton's Harvey home and that she fought with her now dead husband, Raymond Tilton, 29, in the front yard.

Bellazer, who described his 26-year-old daughter as hard-working and God-fearing, said deputies never visited Dawn's home during the six months he lived there after Hurricane Katrina, and his daughter never told him about abuse before that.

Those interviewed on television seemed to imply that Dawn, whose husband was described by authorities as a career criminal, was in some way responsible for her death and Arielle's, Bellazer said, adding that he really can't tolerate that.

"My daughter wasn't trash," said Bellazer, 57, from his New Orleans home Monday.

"My daughter was a hard-working person.

All my daughter wanted to be was a hard-working mother and wife.
