chief faces suspension, raps A Makati City barangay chairman is facing suspension and administrative charges following Sunday’s raid on an illegal drugs "tiangge" inside his jurisdiction.

Chairman Abner Dreu was ordered yesterday to explain within three days to Mayor Jejomar Binay why the drug "tiangge" in Barangay Rizal was never reported.

In his memorandum to Dreu, Binay stressed barangay captains serve "at the frontlines of our city government’s campaign against illegal drugs." "As public officials, we cannot be indifferent, complacent, or unaware of illegal drug activities, knowing fully well that the drug menace is a threat to our communities," the mayor said.

Last Sunday afternoon, operatives from Makati Anti ba href=/drug abuse/a/b Council (MADAC) and Makati police raided the drug "tiangge" at Labradores Compound in Barangay Rizal following complaints from residents that the place is being frequented by many people.

From the seven shanties located in the area, police arrested 16 suspected drug pushers including seven who have been in the MADAC watchlist of notorious drug pushers, namely, Vicente Labradores, Baltazar Labradores, Rodel Hernandez, Boberlita Flores, Jason Badanoy, Jhonny Daga, and Rex Advincula.
