Arena said it expects issues raised by the FDA to be resolved using available data, but that the FDA may require the company to generate additional data.

Arena said if no additional data is required, it will be able to initiate Phase 2 trial around mid-year.

If additional data is sought, the company said it expects the initiation of the trial will be delayed until the fourth quarter of this year.

However, the company expects the delay not to impact the company's longer-term timeline of submitting an NDA in 2009.

ARNA is currently trading at $17.50, down 57 cents, or 3.15%, on a volume of 252K shares.
