Sleep clinics have sprung up at hospitals in the past decade to diagnose sleep troubles.

Medications, surgery and even devices such as nasal strips or pinkie rings to curb snoring are all touted as cures for the sleep-deprived.

A recent NBC “Today” show/Zogby International poll showed nearly half of Americans say they don’t get enough sleep, with roughly a quarter getting fewer than six hours a night.

Data from the National Health Statistics show a 20-year trend of Americans reporting less sleep.Sleep troubles can happen at any age, but aging itself is a factor.
