Beaumont offers alternative therapy for cancer patients...ba href=/insomnia/a/b and nausea. ADVERTISEMENT "The idea is that we are not only bodies, we are mind, body and spirit," she said. Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak started offering what it calls its integrative medicine services in April 2005. Evo said that all of the services are performed by trained therapists and clinical massage is the most popular treatment. The services are not limited to patients who are receiving treatment at Beaumont Hospital. "Regardless of hospital affiliation, we see patients from all over," Evo said. "We treat anyone whose life has been touched by cancer." This includes cancer patient caregivers and their family members. Scar therapy is also offered. For example, Evo said that if a breast cancer patient has scarring from a mastectomy, they teach that patient how to care for the scar. "Integrative medicine enhances self image," she said. Group therapy is also offered in addition to individual treatments. "We offer gentle yoga and learned meditation classes at Royal Oak," Evo said. She added that plans for group therapy at Troy are being developed. The integrative services are not covered by medical insurance, but the hospital is trying to keep costs down to make it more affordable to patients. "It is $45 for a full-hour massage," Evo said. "We feel good that our rates are low." All services are by appointment only. For more information or to receive services, call (248) 551-9990.
