A recent survey revealed that about 60 percent of adult Beijingers have suffered sleep disorders in the past 12 months, which probably results from living in a high-pressured and fast-paced society.

The report quoted as saying that many of them complain that their sleeping sessions are too short and that they often have trouble getting back to sleep.

According to a separate survey among doctors in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, ba href=/insomnia/a/b is found in 75 percent of depression patients.

While, for Chinese children and students, the heavy burden of studying and passing examinations for higher schools are also important causes of the problem, experts said.

The majority of the people with the problems were found working in professions that require intense brainwork, including media workers and business leaders, said the newspaper.

...ba href=/insomnia/a/b.

With SILENOR we are pursuing an indication for the treatment of ba href=/insomnia/a/b, a large, rapidly growing and under treated market.

SILENOR is unique in that it is believed to work by a different mechanism of action than currently approved products for ba href=/insomnia/a/b." Also in 2005, Somaxon initiated a Phase II/III clinical trial with oral nalmefene hydrochloride for the treatment of pathological gambling and a Phase II clinical trial in smoking cessation.

Additionally, the company is actively engaged in a reformulation effort with its third compound, acamprosate, which, if successful, Somaxon intends to develop for certain movement disorders.

"Based on the progress we made in our clinical development program, we also were able to complete a private financing and an IPO in 2005," continued Cohen.

"With these successful financings, we plan to complete the clinical development program and file an NDA for SILENOR, while also completing the two ongoing nalmefene trials and initial formulation work with acamprosate.

These programs will provide a number of key milestones by which to track our progress in 2006." Somaxon, a development stage specialty pharmaceutical company, had no revenues in 2005.

For the year 2005, total operating expenses were $39.9 million, including $29.0 million of research and development (R&D) expenses, compared with total operating expenses of $13.8 million, including $7.6 million of R&D expenses, in 2004.
