UM, 21, ADMITS SMOTHERING SON Woman afraid to tell parents she was pregnant By Gordon Mcilwraith A YOUNG mum smothered her baby and hid his body in a bedroom cupboard after secretly giving birth. Beverley West, 21, was scared to tell her parents she was pregnant and wore baggy clothes to hide it, a court heard yesterday. And minutes after the baby was born, she put her hand over his nose and mouth then wrapped his body in pink pyjamas and hid it in a cupboard. West convinced health visitors she'd had an abortion using papers she got on the internet from a Florida clinic - but a midwife became suspicious. When West was quizzed by police, she confessed: "I panicked. I had the baby. I killed it - it's in the bedroom." At the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, West admitted culpable homicide at her parents' home in Buckie, Banffshire, in March last year. Advertisement Advocate depute Angela Grahame saidWest got pregnant in June 2004. She and her boyfriend agreed to a termination - but West kept her condition secret from her parents because she was afraid of their reaction. In November, her doctor referred her to Dr Gray's hospital in Elgin. They concluded she was 20 weeks pregnant - too late for a termination. Almost a week later, she aske...
