Beads-for-Doughnuts campaign opens The Mobile locations of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts have launched their Beads-for-Doughnuts program, according to Chris Brooks, area manager for Krispy Kreme.

The drive, in its fourth year, began Monday and continues through Thursday.

People who bring in 12 or more pounds of Mardi Gras beads to either of the two Krispy Kreme locations, 1354 Government St.

or 741 Hillcrest Road, will receive a dozen free original glazed doughnuts or a coupon to redeem for the same.

The beads are donated to Augusta Evans Special School, where the students will sort and rebundle them, helping to develop their mental and physical capabilities as well as their self-sufficiency.

The school sells the beads back to Mobile area Mardi Gras organizations to help raise money for the school.

Krispy Kreme collected approximately 17,000 pounds of beads last year.
