Battle with illness led dad, 25, to kill himself

Adrian Scott, 25, of Criffel Road, Parton, committed suicide on December 16 after a long battle with his illness.

The dad-of-two started suffering from psychological problems after the death of his father, Alan.

His mum, Elizabeth Scott, told an inquest: “He was a happy child and there were no signs of mental illness.

“He took it badly when his dad died.

He was diagnosed with paranoid ba href=/schizophrenia/a/b and was prescribed medication but he did not take the tablets most of the time.” Mr Scott had two sons – Dylan Jay, six, and Riley Jake, one – with his childhood sweetheart Andrea Kerr.

The couple had shared a house together until Mr Scott’s illness became so bad he had to move in with his parents.

Mr Scott spent periods of time in the West Cumberland Hospital and was even admitted under the Mental Health Act.

Miss Kerr told the inquest how his condition affected their relationship.

She said: “Once we started going out we never really left each other’s side, we were always together.

“We were both really happy to be living together and we got on really well and very rarely argued.

“Adrian took his dad’s death really hard, they were more like best friends.

“He started doing things that were out of character, like cheating on me.

“He started talking about hanging himself and he would carry dog leads around with him to hang himself with.” The night before he died, Mrs Scott said her son had been dri...
