Netlets for Thursday, March 30...ba href=/schizophrenia/a/b, I was deeply disturbed by the article concerning the federal health officials' response to the handling of the Stephen Miles situation with Fairview Southdale Hospital ("ER's handling of mentally ill man called 'appropriate'," March 23).When our son is psychotic, getting him to the hospital is critical. He has never brandished a weapon, nor has he threatened to kill another person. Rather he quits eating and drinking, believes bullets will not harm him, powers his car with telepathic energy, stands on the freeway in traffic and many other equally dangerous behaviors. Our son would never agree to a "physical exam" when he is in this mental state.Referring someone who is at the breaking point to another hospital may not be against the law but in my opinion it is certainly not in the patient's best interest. An ambulance ride to another hospital would have been one option. "First do no harm" is something all physicians swear in their Hippocratic oath. We need to redefine how we interpret that phrase and then think of the patients and their families first.SUE HANSON, MAPLE GROVEReality doesn't seem to penetrateThe Republicans say that seeking or discussing impeachment of George W. Bush hurts the war on terror. This is another lie. We are killing our youth in a war fought over a lie, and we have a president who believes that we will win. I believe that I am 6 feet tall and skinny, but I know I am not and that is the difference between reality and never never land.SH... Back Together on 'Huff,' 2 Friends Enjoy the Moment...ba href=/schizophrenia/a/b — it is the intricate chemistry between Huff and Russell that is notably effervescent. That their onscreen friendship appears so authentic is a tribute, it seems, not only to the sharp writing of the show's creator and executive producer, Bob Lowry (a one-time extra who reinvented himself as a producer, beginning in the late 1990's, on "Any Day Now" on Lifetime), but also to the fact that Mr. Azaria, 41, and Mr. Platt, 46, have known each other their entire adult lives. (The two overlapped at Tufts largely because Mr. Platt took some time off in college.) And part of the fun of each role, the actors say, is getting to reorder some of the touchstones of their own relationship.12Next Page »The season premiere of "Huff" will be on Showtime on Sunday at 10 p.m., Eastern and Pacific time; 9 p.m., Central time.
