When depressed mothers achieve remission of their depression after three months on medication, the diagnoses and symptoms in their children of anxiety, disruptive behaviors, and depressive disorders also went down significantly, reported Myrna M.

Weissman, Ph.D., of the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia here, and colleagues at other centers.

"From a clinical vantage point, our findings suggest that vigorous treatment of depressed mothers to achieve remission is associated with positive outcomes in their children as well, whereas failure to treat depressed mothers may increase the burden of illness in their children," the authors wrote in the March 22 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

"The bottom line message is: mothers who are depressed, go get treated for your depression," said psychiatrist A.

John Rush, M.D., of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, a co-author.

Police say Drej told them he had killed his brother to prevent him from murdering an unknown female and selling her organs on the black market.

Drej was arrested at the scene shortly after his brother was shot and killed.

He was armed with a handgun, rifle and shotgun.

Police say that the victim was shot at least ten times.

After twice finding Drej was incompetent over the last several months, today the judge ruled that Drej can now stand trial and assist his attorneys in his defense.

Drej has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting.

Now that Drej has been found competent to stand trial, prosecutors plan to ask for a preliminary hearing next week.

They say they expect the case will move forward.
