Mrs Joan Kathleen Woolley was travelling with her husband Warren to a birthday party at the time.

Mr Wilson said Ms Lynch had finished work at 2am at the Lighthouse Hotel in Ulverstone and travelled home.

"She went straight to bed around 3am and took her son to a cricket match at about 8.30am," he said.

She drove via the Bass Highway to the Howth roundabout and turned left on to the Old Bass Highway to travel through Sulphur Creek.

"It was after this manoeuvre that her car crossed over on to the incorrect side of the roadway in a straight line and headed directly into the path of Mr and Mrs Woolley," he said.

She had initially faced a number of charges, including causing the death of another person by negligent driving and driving without due care and attention.

"On August 24, after numerous court appearances, Ms Lynch pleaded guilty to the charge of drive without due care and attention and received a fine of $250 and $40.95 court costs and three months disqualification," he said.

Police Prosecution (Western District) did not proceed with the remaining charges and they were dismissed.

"The tragedy highlights the dangers of driver fatigue, particularly where people work until the early hours of the morning and are then required to drive after little or no ba href=/sleep/a/b," he said.
