Her Precious health

She had no time to rest after weeks of grueling prepageant activities and her grand coronation night, especially since she knew that the Filipino people, beaming with pride for her, longed to see their new queen with her crown and sash.

2005 Miss International Precious Lara Quigaman “I couldn’t disappoint them,” remembers the 23-year-old stunner.

But she discovered that sometimes there is a price to pay, even for graciousness.

Her body gave in from the stress and she had to be tied down to her bed to regain her strength.

Quigaman learned a lesson then, which she has since carried through her reign.

“You need to take care of yourself even if you have so many things to do: Eat well, try to get as much ba href=/sleep/a/b as possible, and take your vitamins,” she counts off, sounding almost like a mother.

She etched the simple routine into her new lifestyle as an international beauty queen, which is why she did not hesitate to accept an offer to endorse the multivitamin brand Centrum Complete.

She is now visible on TV and print ads as its female face—with Pinoy Big Brother housemate-turned-matinee-idol Sam Milby as her counterpart—in the popular “I Want to Be Complete” campaign.

“Thankfully, things have slowed down now,” says TV’s latest ad queen.

“But there was a time that I’d have to be at three events in a day, which meant I had to be up from 6 a.m.

Taking vitamins really helped me get through the ordeal.” In the commercial, she sugge...

With McDermott in tow, ISU looks toward the future

...ba href=/sleep/a/b and Wayne Morgan — and the details surrounding his dismissal — already is fading into memory.Still, McDermott won’t have much time to relax over the coming weeks and months with the program’s expectations as high as ever.“There’s nothing about next year that’s a rebuilding year,” McDermott said.

“Hopefully we’ll plan on returning to postseason play as soon as next March.”By hiring McDermott, a native Iowan with a proven track record and a squeaky-clean reputation, Pollard went a long way toward stanching the negative publicity surrounding Iowa State’s ties to D1 Scheduling, a California business run by a junior college coach.Several college basketball programs reportedly steered more than $100,000 to the company, which was founded by Los Angeles City College coach Mike Miller.

The report alleged that Miller might have been delivering LACC players to Division I schools, including Iowa State, which paid the company to arrange games.Fans and media alike have praised the McDermott hire — and how quickly Pollard was able to get it done.

McDermott was considered one of the nation’s rising young coaches, and a hot candidate for openings around the nation. But once Pollard identified McDermott as his top choice, the deal was done 24 hours later.

That ensured that McDermott wouldn’t have time to be wooed by other suitors, such as Big 12 rival Missouri, and made sure that Iowa State&rsqu...

Parents, Bus Drivers Wary About New School Hours

...ba href=/sleep/a/b in the morning in hopes that they would be more alert for classes.

It would also eliminate one bus run and save the district about $51,000.

However, the later start means putting high school and middle school students on the same schedule and on the same buses.

Parents say the two age groups would clash.

Katie Torres, who attended the meeting, said her daughter is already nervous about going to a new school in the fall.

Torres told the board, "I'm here on behalf of my daughter.

She is going to sixth grade in the fall.

She said, 'Mom- go to the meeting and tell them no way.'" Parents aren't the only ones concerned.

Veteran school bus driver, Cathy Grachus, says the plan "spells trouble in capital letters." "It doesn't mix and match.

You've got two different groups of kids," Grachus said.

However, drivers worry more about the troublesome middle schoolers than the high schoolers.

Last year, the district handled 185 bus behavior complaints for middle school students, but only 42 that involved high schoolers.

Gates-Chili Superintendent Rick Stein said putting both groups on the same bus may work well; he sees the high school students acting as role models for the younger ones.

Ultimately the school board will decide on the proposal.  After school sports would not be affected, but students would have to participate in clubs and get help with academics in the morning before school starts.
