Not that people don’t try to buy a good night’s ba href=/sleep/a/b.

ba href=/sleep/a/b clinics have sprung up at hospitals in the past decade to diagnose ba href=/sleep/a/b troubles.

Medications, surgery and even devices such as nasal strips or pinkie rings to curb snoring are all touted as cures for the ba href=/sleep/a/b-deprived.

A recent NBC “Today” show/Zogby International poll showed nearly half of Americans say they don’t get enough ba href=/sleep/a/b, with roughly a quarter getting fewer than six hours a night.

Data from the National Health Statistics show a 20-year trend of Americans reporting less ba href=/sleep/a/b.ba href=/sleep/a/b troubles can happen at any age, but aging itself is a factor.

Alice McMann, 65, who works at the Preble County Senior Center, said she often goes long periods without ba href=/sleep/a/b problems, but they return.“Sometimes I’ve napped too long during the day or I wake up at night and start thinking about things,” McMann said.

“I lay there and think I should be aba href=/sleep/a/b.

It makes it worse to focus on it.”Several things interfere with ba href=/sleep/a/b at older ages, said Dr.

Dana Reihman, who practices with the Reid Hospital ba href=/sleep/a/b center.“As you age, you don’t get as much REM (Rapid Eye Movement) ba href=/sleep/a/b,” Reihman said.

Forty-one percent say it takes at least 20 minutes, and 8 percent need an hour to reach the Land of Nod, said the Carpenter Company, the maker of materials used in pillows and mattresses that commissioned the survey.

"As a society, [our] anxiety levels have risen pretty significantly over the last five years - [due to] everything from 9/11 to the different economic states people are going through," said Michael Breus, who led the survey.

And we may be thinking too much about ba href=/sleep/a/b.

"Once you raise the level of awareness, you start to notice things," said Breus, a clinical psychologist and ba href=/sleep/a/b consultant to the health Web site WebMD.

He said the national increase in obesity may also be a factor, causing ba href=/sleep/a/b apnea.

The survey of 1,008 Americans was conducted March 17-19.

The margin of error was 3 points.

Close encounters with black and whites

Signs of spring seem to bring out those black animals with the white streak down their backs.

There were three of them in our yard yesterday morning.

I have had some good luck and some very bad luck with the little creatures.One night I was getting home rather late from a meeting and reached down to pat our black cat that was waiting on our doorstep.

It wasn't our cat and I was lucky.

The skunk wouldn't move so I could get in our house.

I went to our front door and that was locked.

I waited some time at a distance and finally the skunk moved so I could get in my house.Another time one somehow got into our cellar.

I wasn't about to fool with it, but I understand if you can pick one up fast enough by its tail, you are safe.

Well, I made the mistake of all mistakes.

I shot it.

The fragrance was so bad that my eyes smarted and the tears ran down my cheeks.

I don't think my wife will ever let me forget what I did.

Talk about pollution.I was looking through some pictures of our last trip.

I found a picture that I took of some real pollution.

It was of an industrial city in the distance.

Black smoke was pouring out of each of its many smokestacks.

I don't know the name of the city.

Foolishly, I never marked my film.

It was, however, part-way between Odessa and Kiev in Ukraine.There has been a lot of talk lately about global warming caused in part by pollutants.
