New face offers county workers the ‘human’ touch

Linda Lemon plans her day at the County Administrative Office on South Brooks Street. For anyone who plans to work for the Clarendon County government, chances are certain they’ll first have to go through Human Resources Director Linda Lemon. “I handle everything,” Lemon said. “You may not always like the decisions I make, but that decision will apply to the next person and the next one after that. When you’re a human resources director, people have to see that you’re fair.” Born in Sumter but raised in New York, Lemon returned to her Carolina roots in 1978 shortly after graduating from high school. With a Master of Science degree with a concentration in Human Resource from Troy State University and a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Voorhees College – both of which Lemon obtained while raising children and working jobs within her field at Morris College and USC Upstate – it’s safe to say that Lemon was up to the task. “I’m here until it’s time to stop working,” she said brightly. “I don’t mind coming early and staying late or doing whatever it takes.” For Lemon, the secret to human resources is to enjoy working with a diverse group of people.
