The sessions were held at the Good Shepherd office in Hayesville.

Guest speakers participating in the training included: Teresa Heavner, MD Volunteer Hospice Medical Director, Lynae Cheeks, Hospice RN Coordinator, Arnaldo Lugo, Hospice Chaplain, Linda May MMC Volunteer Coordinator and seasoned volunteers, Betsy Lewis and Mabel Cook.

The diverse group of attendees included nursing assistants, seasoned volunteers and RNs.

Administration and staff culminated the 5 weeks of training on Thursday March 9, 2006 by awarding attendees with pins, certificates and a luncheon celebration.

" Good Shepherd is very fortunate to have an excellent group of volunteers who are willing to share their time and talents with hospice patients and families," states Towanna Roberts, Good Shepherd Manager .Hospice volunteers render a variety of services to hospice patients and their families, including home visits, emotional support, running errands and lending a listening ear.

The primary goal of the hospice team is to enable the patient to spend his or her last days with a sense of dignity, pain free and at home with loved ones.
