Grazing too early this year could perform the coup de grace, further damaging already stressed Bermuda grass pastures, said a Texas Cooperative Extension expert.Beset by drought and wildfires, north central Texas producers may be tempted to turn cattle into their bunch grasses or coastal and other improved varieties of Bermuda grass as they green up from recent rains. But don’t “jump into pastures” just yet, said Dr. Yoana Newman, Extension forage specialist based at the Texas A&M University System Agriculture Research and Extension Center at Stephenville.“Just because they green up, doesn’t mean pastures have recovered,” she said. “The green color is accentuated by the dark color of the burnt or bare ground giving the impression that there is more herbage than there actually is. But standards have improved vastly over the past decade, thanks to the emergence of a uniform language involving five main types of behavior. The testing industry remains largely unregulated, however. "There's still a Wild West of unsupported, unproven tests out there," says Annie Murphy Paul, author of The Cult of Personality Testing. But tests have got better at fingering the liars, mainly by arranging questions to indicate a pattern-"a lie scale, if you will," says Sackett. Dinah Daniels, CEO of testing company PI Worldwide, says built-in alarms go off when an applicant is faking. Says Sackett: "My advice is to take the test at face value and describe yourself clearly and honestly. If you fit the job, great. If you don't, maybe it wasn't for you."
